Create a cocktail that can maintain over time the same success as classic cocktails such as Mojito, Daiquiri or Cuba Libre; This is the challenge of the bartenders who are competing, in a selection in several stages, to obtain a place in the final of the BACARDÍ® Legacy Global Cocktail Competition 2018 in Mexico. A competition in which the future of mixology meets the tradition and quality of a range of rum that sinks its origins in the Caribbean lands of mid-800. Carola Abrate, Davide Mitacchione and Fabrizio Candino from Italy, Emmanuel Otero and Joe Lewis-White from Spain, Matthieu Pluta, Jimmy Cassar and Nicolas Goradesky from France and Fernando Santos, Gastao Siopa and Rafael Silva from Portugal will play against each other on 5 and 6 March at the Quirinetta in Rome. Those of them who will win the award for the best cocktail, will fly on May 2 in Mexico City for the final and will challenge the other finalists from all over the world. After passing the semi-finals of Granada in November 27th and 28th , the three bartenders from each country will be judged this time by a jury composed by Keila Urzaiz - bartender at the Artesian Bar of the Langham Hotel in London -, Juan Valls - owner of Niño Perdido Valladiolid in Spain and Fibar - and bartender Gianni Zottola for the Cocktail section, and experts in the cocktail promotion strategy, such as Tine Van Nevel - European Director of BACARDÍ Rum -, Manuela Kremlin, marketing director of FIG cluster BACARDÍ Rum and Dickie Cullimore - BACARDÍ Rum Global Brand Ambassador -.
In fact, these will be the evaluation criteria: the name, the inspiration, the originality and the replicability, but also the presentation, the aroma and the taste, as well as their performance and technique. Two minutes to arrange ingredients and tools of the trade on the counter, seven minutes to prepare and present your cocktail and seven more to tell your own promotion plan and answer the questions of the jurors. 16 minutes to win a dream!! In May last year, the Belgian Ran Van Ongevalle was awarded the highest points at the finals in Berlin with his Clarita cocktail.
