The DRiNK Magazine BAR AWARDS 2019!


Ah the year drew to a close in the 2019 hospitality calendar there was 1 event left that we were lucky enough to attend & be a part of as Cocktails For You. This was the DRiNK Magazine Bar Awards 2019 being held in Shanghai, China. Asia itself as a region has been showing knocking cocktail competitions out the park as well as raising the bar when it came to hospitality for a long time now so it was a privilege that Cocktails For You was invited to be a part of the press invited to this prestigious event!

Shanghai, December 10 –– Thirsty Work Productions and DRiNK Magazine are delighted to announce the winners of DMBA 2019 after a spectacular ceremony at the Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai on Monday evening (December 9).



The big winners of the night were the Hope & Sesames and Taste Buds groups, scoring three awards each. The Hope & Sesames group took home the Sustainability Award, while their Guangzhou bar Hope & Sesame won the Bar Team and Service Award. Taste Buds group scooped the Entrepreneurship Award, while their venues Atelier by Taste Buds won High Volume bar and the recently opened Arch by Taste Buds bagged the Design Award.


Cross Yu also scored a hattrick, winning the Founders Awards and the coveted Bartender of the Year award, while his bar E.P.I.C. was recognised in the Music Program category.

Jay Khan claimed two of the Asia categories, winning Bartender of the Year (Asia) and Bar of the Year (Asia) for his agave haven COA (Hong Kong).


Now in its fourth year, the ceremony celebrated the best bars, brands and bartenders across China and Asia. This year, DMBA also featured a new category: Bar Team (Asia), which was won by The Old Man (Hong Kong). In total, 22 winners were announced, with each one awarded either a silver or gold shaker.


DMBA 2019’s Winter Wonderland-themed ceremony featured live performances from one of China’s top hip-hop artists – Tang King, and Lime Dance, a Shanghai- based studio whose choreographers, directors and dancers specialise in everything from jazz funk and zumba to ballet and lyrical contemporary dance.


Before the gourmet four-course dinner, 660 guests enjoyed a cocktail reception with stellar drinks from world renowned bartenders Erik Lorincz, Joe Schofield, Agung Prabowo, Beckaly Franks, Shingo Gokan, Ali Burgess, Martin Hudak and many more.


After the awards, the official afterparty continued over two floors at Calypso Bar & Lounge. On the first floor, Beckaly Franks (The Pontiac, Hong Kong) and Kiki Moka (The Union Group, Jakarta) kept the party going with Remy Cointreau drinks and on the second floor, the dynamic Italian duo of Vincenzo Pagliara (Arch by Taste Buds) Rudi Carraro (Amaro Montenegro and Select Aperitiv
